I just got back from having dinner at Everdine's Grilled Cheese Co. This is a new little café in downtown Naperville. It's a small place and they had a steady stream of customers, so they're off to a good start.
Just a brief precursor. My go-to place for grilled cheese in Naperville is the bar called The Lantern. They make a very good bacon tomato grilled cheese that's done with American cheese, which comes with one of a variety of sides (Tater Tots are my fav). So that's my benchmark on my evaluation of grilled cheese.
The sandwich I ordered is called The Usual, which is bacon tomato grilled cheese. Very well made and very tasty, made with American, Swiss, and Havarti cheeses. Perhaps a tad pricey at $7.49, which is the sandwich alone. The bacon tomato grilled cheese at The Lantern is about the same price and comes with a side. But I liked The Usual and would have it again.
The tomato soup was very good, more like tomato basil. It's a tad thicker than your average soup, but not a bisque. $5.00 for a bowl was a good value I believe. It's a definite do-again.
The Mac 'N Cheese was decent, but a bit thick and heavy. I may be an aberration on mac and cheese because no matter how gourmet I get, I still judge mac and cheese based on Kraft's Blue Box, which I still think is the best. So YMMV.
Overall, I liked the place a lot and liked the sandwich and the soup. I'll definitely go back.
