Cuisinart is recalling blades for many food processors because the blades may fail and leave sharp pieces of metal in the food. Apparently some of the pieces may be quite small. Press Release

    Recall Details

    Units: About 8 million

Description: This recall involves the riveted blades in Cuisinart food processors with model numbers that begin with the following: CFP-9, CFP-11, DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14, DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014, EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14, KFP-7 and MP-14. The model number is located on the bottom of the food processor. The blades have four rivets and are silver-colored stainless steel and have a beige plastic center hub. Only food processors with four rivets in the blades are included in this recall. Cuisinart is printed on the front and on the bottom of the food processors.

Sold at: Department, gourmet and specialty stores nationwide and on various websites from July 1996 through December 2015 for between $100 and $350.

The recall included blades for our DLC-8M made in Japan, not just made in China. If you have a blade held together by four rivets, check your model on the recall site.

When I heard the news I had assumed it was going to be for more recent models, not my older than dirt DLC-8M. Glad I checked!

Mine is really old and is model number DLC 8F, which does not appear to be part of the recall, though I will call since it does have a riveted blade, and a lot of the other dlc8 models are part of it

Since this came up, I checked my Cuisinart. Indeed, the blade is cracked right by the rivet. Guess I won't be using this any time soon.

    HI,

I have the same p/n, I simply declared it was a dlc8. I have the same riveted blade, though it is not cracked like nr706.

Crossing my fingers I get the right part.

I have a DLC 8M and while that one is listed, somewhere else they said that it could be DLC 8 followed by any suffix.

When I went to their website, it basically boiled down to two questions:
    1) Is it a DLC6? If yes, you're OK
    2) Does it have a riveted blade? If yes, they'll replace it.

All you need is a model number from the bottom of the unit, no serial number or receipt needed.

No. And for those of us who typically cook/experiment a lot over the holidays, it was especially inconveniencing. I'm still waiting on my replacement blades . . . maybe by next November?

As noted at the start of the thread the recall covered about eight million blades, which presents quite a logistical problem. The number may have been quite a bit higher as the actual date range was quite a bit longer than was noted in the press release. The DLC-8 model was sold with the riveted blades more than a decade before 1996.

I submitted my claim online on the second or third day. I apparently erased the e-mail confirmation along with some of the promotional garbage in mid-December, but as I recall there was supposed to be an e-mail when the blade is about to be shipped. No such e-mail has been received. The mail carrier just rang our doorbell as the package was much too large to go through the mail slot.

Thank you so much for your ongoing patience. We want to keep you advised of the status of your free Cuisinart replacement blade. Our blades are fabricated using precise manufacturing processes, which of course means, that they take some time to produce. We are producing new blades as rapidly as possible to meet the demand resulting from this replacement program.

When your blade is about to be shipped, we will send you an email so you can anticipate when it will arrive to the address you indicated on your replacement blade registration. In the meantime, you are able to use all other cutting implements and accessories that may have come with your Cuisinart food processor.

I have 2 Cuisinarts . . . haven't received any replacements, and not sure they'll actually send 2 but we'll see. At least I got a confirming email and then a follow-up. My mom never received any confirmation.

In any event, I have continued to use mine, albeit after checking the blade before and after each use to make sure it's fine.

Ditto. I've checked to make sure there are no cracks or missing bits in the plastic or metal portions before and after each use. But I couldn't have gotten through holiday season without it.

I hadn't clicked on the link but figured it was a book of recipes that don't require the use of a food processor!

It's now been months since I requested my replacement blade.

For any who are interested, here's a link to the Cuisinart email of 2/4/17.

They're owned by the same company that owns Conair, so maybe some of the recipes require a blow dryer?

I received the same somewhat apologetic e-mail on Saturday. As noted upthread I already received the replacement blade on January 10. I do not think Cuisinart has their act together with the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

    Just additional data points.
    Registered for recall on 12/14/2016.
Received replacement blade via UPS on 1/31/2017.
Received apology for the delay of the blade they didn't think they had yet shipped and link to cookbook on 2/4/2017.

I was able to download the 80 page pdf. The url they supply you is either hosted on the world's slowest web server or is just horribly designed - or probably both. Click on the link then switch to a different tab and don't look at it for, ummmm, gee I just clicked on it a few minutes ago for the first time since the 4th, LOL.

I will give them kudos for the packaging of the replacement blade and the enclosed instructions which clearly explain how to safely extract the new blade and package the old one for safe disposal.

i got the same email today. having used the potentially defective blade for 20 years in my ignorance, i'm continuing to use it as the likelihood of a problem is slim. but i am checking the blade after each use before i eat whatever was processed....
