If you live in or around Westmont, Illinois in the western suburbs, definitely check out Marmelly. While the strip mall space is not much to look at, the food is made with love. I enjoyed an excellent huarache that comes with beans, cheese, and sour cream, and I chose to have grilled chicken incorporated into it and lovely slices of fresh avocado placed on top. It was delicious.
My daughter enjoyed a cheese quesadilla in a homemade tortilla, and my husband had a cemita -- yes, a cemita -- with asada. It was really good, and the bread-- while not quite up to Cemitas Puebla levels-- was really fresh and yummy and made for a delicious sandwich. The asada did seem to have a tinge of a sweet yet tangy taste that I didn't 100% love, but my husband enjoyed this sandwich very much and wants to go back to try to the Milanesa, Cubano, and several other versions on offer.
We are pretty familiar with some other Mexican restaurants in the area, namely Los Dos in Downers Grove (which is a personal favorite) and Taco Grill in Westmont. I would say that Marmelly easily can co-exist among these others, in that Marmelly has a taste all its own.... and a fairly extensive menu, to boot.
