Vermont PBS' Create has just launched "Mike Colemeco's Real Food", which is a documentary-style back-of-the-house half hour. Last night he was in Alsace, visiting the best restos (Auberge de l'Ill, for example) and wineries (Hugel, Trimbach, etc.). I know Alsace like the back of my hand, so I enjoyed the show, and was actually surprised at the access he had.
I'm a bit ambiguous about the show. At first I thought he was sort of a Bourdain wannabe, but then I found out that his show has been on the road since 2000, so he's been around for awhile. Even so, I don't find him terribly appealing as a host, nor very insightful, as Bourdain sometimes can be. In the end, what I do appreciate about the show is seeing the places and people he manages to feature. Anyone else have thoughts about it?
