Anyone have some good recommendations for Chinese delivery or carry-out in Bucktown or Wicker Park? My former preferred place, Chinalite (huge delivery area) is no longer in business. I would be willing to travel further for something truly special.

    Cheers,
    Peter

There have been a few discussions, the best anyone seems to come up with is Friendship Chinese. Check out

Mon Lung on Ashland & Augusta is great. We've been getting take-out from them for years and it's always solid. I suggest any of their signature dishes, the Cantonese and Chow Fun as well.

We have friends that live in the area that used our favorite Yummy Yummy. If you eat meat, try the House Chili Chicken if you like it hot. If you don't eat meat & like it hot ask for the House Chili Soy Gluten. Also you can chase it with a mean Mango Lychee Tapioca.

The GF and I finally went in to Mon Lung and had dinner there, first time not getting take-out, can you believe?

the food is great, friendly service and there always seems to be a good crowd regardless of time (lots of cops dine here too, so very safe  )

We got potstickers and a large hot & sour soup to start, and then we went for the house specials (written on a chalkboard over by the kitchen/order window). We decided on Hong Kong steak, and Szechuan string beans.

    Image

Here's the remainder of large portion of H&S soup (we each had a bowl the size of that rice bowl), the Hong Kong steak was a mix of chopped steak (ribeye, since there were bones), with many veggies in a very good brown gravy (we asked for spicy), and Szechuan string beans were firm yet flavorful. We didn't need to add hot sauce at all, which is saying something since we both like it spicy.

Their potstickers has always been a favorite of ours, but having them directly from the kitchen to the booth (as opposed to getting them home from take-out) makes a big difference. Dang are they good! 6 to an order and plump and flavorful.

We ended up taking the rest of the soup, steak and beans home for lunch today, and with a beer and a glass of wine, the total came to around $50ish or so.

Best Chinese in the neighborhood - bar none!

Another thumbs up for Mon Lung. My husband and I were carry-out regulars at Mon Lung before we moved out of the neighborhood. Our favorites were: Ma Po tofu (spicy), singapore vermicelli, black mushroom combination, and the hot and sour soup.

I don't think they deliver. Carryout only. I wasn't as impressed as the others with this place. I dined in once. It's Hong Kong food, nothing too out of the ordinary and anytime canned mushrooms are used it's a turnoff for me. I prefer Eat First for delivery. They'll spice up anything you like, and the delivery time is super fast.

Lee's Chop Suey on Diversey and Western is pretty good. They have awesome egg rolls.

Mon Lung doesn't deliver and they are closed on Mondays, otherwise we love them. For delivery we like Eat First.

    Bump.

Any updates here? Mon lung still puts out a wildly mediocre take out.

Our main delivery is Dee's but it is definitely on the expensive side.

Love to hear what others in the hood lean towards.

We love Serai. It is Malaysian, but / and the menu has a sizable Chinese portion. Solid chow fun, for instance.

I'll second the Serai recommendation. Their delivery/takeout menu includes the typical American Chinese favorites and they do it better than a lot of dedicated Chinese places.

So I just found out that through one of my Instagram feeds (chibbqking) that China Station at North and Western is under new ownership and a Tony Hu protege is involved. As someone who doesn't think there are any solid Chinese options in the Wicker Park/Bucktown/West Town area I'm excited to check it out.

We ordered from Lee's Garden last night via Grub Hub and it was terrific.

We ordered pot stickers, barbecue pork egg foo young, lo mein combo and kung pao combo. The flavors were bright and the food was piping hot when it arrived.

I had some of the egg foo young for breakfast this morning and it still tasted great.
