I just wanted to circle back to post about how truly enjoyable and informative this event was. We saw all sorts of great talks and round-tables, and even a screening of Erick Castro's indie film Bartender At Large, followed by a Q&A with the affable Mr. Castro. If there was a single negative at all, it was just that there were time slots during which more than one event we wanted to see was taking place. Here's a recap of what we saw . . .
Day 1Seminar: Chicago Cocktails and Bars of Old
David Wondrich
Film Screening & Discussion: "Bartender At Large"
Erick Castro
Panel Discussion: The Third Place
Ed Marszewski, Ernest Wilkins, Alicia Swiz
Session: A Bartender’s Guide to Making Cocktails At Home
Julieta Campos
Keynote: Live taping of "The Sporkful" with Dan Pashman, Peter Sagal, Kelly Hogan, and Charles Joly
Day 2Keynote: Four Perspectives on Running a Successful Beverage Program
Paul Sauter (moderator), Danny Shapiro, Chase Bracamontes, Alexis Tinoco
Panel Discussion: A Conversation with David Wondrich, Cristiana DeLucca and Erick Castro
Session: The Immortal Alchemist: A Narrative Exploration of the History of Bitters
Greg Buttera
Unfortunately, after the Bitters session we had to head out but not only was there great stuff scheduled for after that, as I mentioned above, there were other great things going on at the same time these events were taking place.
Billy, Erik and all the volunteers did a magnificent job of organizing the event and lining up some really knowledgeable and personable guests. The happenings were lively, diverse and informative. I'm already looking forward to next year's edition.
