    i've tried everything regarding pho.

    packaged pho.

    instant pho soup base.

    frozen pho flavor cubes.

Nothing beats the real thing. I'd rather go spend the $4.50 and eat pho on the sticky tables.

so how did it taste? and how many MG's of sodium was in there? 1200?

it was sickening. and being costco, it's 15x sick

and there's something said about truth in labeling: the package was clearly labeled "NO MSG", but upon reading, i found "Disodium guanylate" as one of the ingredients. that really really bugs me and i figured Costco would have higher purchasing standards than this...

I had to go look this up. I found this here. For those of us who may not know:

Truth in Labeling.org wrote:Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate do not contain MSG, but work synergistically with free glutamic acid. When disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate are found on a food label, consumers can be fairly certain that the labeled product contains some hidden processed free glutamic acid (MSG). Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate are relatively expensive food additives that would not be cost effective if they were not used in the presence of MSG.

if you don't like it, return it. costco has a very liberal return policy.

    Quoted for emphasis and assent.

Also, wanted to point out that the best Pho substitute is to buy a package of pho spices from an Asian market (like Tai Nam on Argyle and Broadway), throw the spices into a pot of good beef or chicken broth, and add some scallions and cilantro. Still not the real thing, but as close as I can get at home.

On a side note, I once ordered pho in a Thai restaurant in Connecticut, and what I got was clearly from an instant package. [gag] And that, boys and girls, is why you go to a pho restaurant when you want pho.
