I truly believe that the weather is going to turn decent. It will definitely be decent on May 23. If not, I have a Plan B.

There's good eats coming from the kitchen of Thali Bites. The problem with this spot is that there isn't any decent amount seating. An LTH North Lunch Group picnic will remedy the situation.

Please take a look at the menu - https://www.thalibites.com/menu

Depending on the final headcount, I'll order 1/2 trays of several items from the menu. We can also do a bunch of appetizers too. Feel free to chime in your requests. If not, I will use my Executive Privilege as Esteemed Coordinator and pick out a bunch of stuff. The restaurant will provide plates and utensils. I'll bring bottled water.

I need a firm headcount and menu requests by the 18th. EddieK, I'm looking at you. 8)

Where are we eating? Glad you asked. Just north of the restaurant is Hibbard Park - 3000 Glenview Rd. in Wilmette. It's at the northwest corner of Skokie Blvd and Glenview Rd. http://www.wilmettepark.org/hibbard-park

At that address, you'll see a large building that looks a school. Take the driveway off of Glenview Rd. Drive around to the back of the building. You'll see some tennis courts. Next to the courts are some picnic tables. That's where we'll dine.

Looking forward to decent weather and seeing you on the 23rd. As always, bring a friend.

I'll be there for this outing based on outside-the-box thinking.

My thumbs up or thumbs down for Pakistani or Indian cuisine varies wildly with the restaurant. But if there is a litmus test from one dish, it would be the Palak Paneer, spinach with paneer cheese. It can be pedestrian or fantastic, and the rest of the dishes served usually follow suit.

You'll have to query the rest as to level of spice, but although I like my dishes to be authentic, too incendiary isn't always good.

    See y'all there...

Well, the weather for tomorrow doesn't look too pretty. As EC, I'm calling an audible and we'll switch to Plan B....lunch will be at my house in Highland Park. I have a very friendly sheepdog and a very friendly wife who will probably join us. I'll PM my address later.

I'll order the requested Samosa's and Palak Paneer along with some other stuff.

    See y'all tomorrow.

OK folks....tomorrow is turning in to more of train wreck.

Earlier this evening, I tried to call in our order to TB for tomorrow. They're supposed to be open until 9pm. I got a voicemail indicating that it was May 11 and that they had to close early.

I sent them an email to see if they could take my order for tomorrow. They just replied indicating that they may not be open tomorrow.

So.....calling in another audible. We're relocating tomorrow's lunch (again) to:

    Curry Hut
    410 Sheridan Rd.
    Highwood
    847-432-2889
    http://www.curryhutrestaurant.com

I suspect that my remaining days as EC are now numbered.....

Good choice, EC. Sounds a lot less unwieldy than managing trays in your car, crossing your fingers against a short stop. I think the only thing worse than spilling Indian/Pakistani/Nepali food in your car would be shellfish stew, like cioppino. Happened to a buddy of mine, in his trunk, and although it was a beater car, once the summer came, the smell was incredible and he ended up having to junk the mobile.

Will see you at Curry Hut at 12:30!

I agree. Excellent choice though the buffet doesnt tend to help my diet plan. The ability of a leader to proactively deal with last minute glitches is important. The EC may have earned himself another 4 years in the position.......though I would expect the heckling to continue, knowing his minions.

I do. Unfortunately, it's in the glove compartment of my car which is presently at a body shop. Poor planning on my part. Details at lunch.

Man, I wish this would have been decided a little earlier, like 12-24 hours earlier, and I would have joined you. Wilmette was too far to drive on this particular workday, but I would have been able to drive to Highwood. And I like Curry Hut. Dang.

LOL - it was decided @ 7:09 pm last night . . . so a little more than 17 hours before your post. Not much Dave could have done to decide it any sooner. :(

No, I meant 12-24 hours before then.

Just saying, sorry I missed it.

Could we consider a PM notification to the group for situations like this, so that we'd get email notifications? Or I could subscribe to all future group threads to get email notifications, but this (getting emails re subscribed threads) hasn't always worked reliably for me in the past. That may have been fixed now.

First time at Curry Hut, and it was really tasty. Some Indian buffets just look a little gross right out of the box--this one's green, this one's yellow, this one's orange--but I was mightily impressed with the soft-lighted layout of this one, complete with explanations above each dish.

Curried goat, even with its pointy bones, was a definite standout (that gravy was heavenly--just right), as was a fluorescent red sauce with chicken (not Kadhai, some other name that escapes me). As a special on the buffet, there was what they called 'Thai Vegetables' but it was about as Thai as I am. With plenty of slightly-crunchy cauliflower and onion in a slightly-spicy vinegar-based sauce, I'd call it an amped-up Aloo Gobhi.

Only EC Dave, Will, Eddie, Cathy & myself. Katie woulda, shoulda, coulda made 6 (and we coulda got eggroll?).

Good call, Dave. With the aforementioned post-glove compartment coupon, it was twelve bucks a head out-the-door. All day long, man...

    Till next time, gang.

Sorry I couldn't make it but am glad to hear the positive report.

Due to schedules, Wife Number One & I have not been to Curry Hut's buffet in some time. The last time it wasn't hitting on all cylinders. Hopefully, that was a one-time glitch and they're up to speed again.

I agree the goat dish is outstanding. Every time I've been, the gravy has been terrific.

EC--while you garnered a month reprieve because of fast and fancy footwork with the audible to Curry Hut--really good BTW--this lack of advance transparency is troubling and will no doubt have the minions muttering, "peasandcarrotspeasandcarrotspeasandcarrots..."
