I'm still here and I'm going to take another crack at our annual picnic. I'm fairly confident that this place will still be in business.

According to their menu, Mei Lin House has direct lineage to the closed Pine Yard in Evanston. I've been fond of the lunch specials as a carry out. Time to share the wealth with the LTH Brethren. There's a bit of discussion here -
    viewtopic.php?f=14&t=43617

Take a look at the menu - http://www.meilinhouse.net/papermenu.aspx
I'll go with the consensus in terms of ordering power. The Party Tray choices as shown on the menu is equivalent to 3 1/2 - 4 times of an individual order. If everyone wants to do lunch specials or pick from the rest of the menu, that's cool too. Please let me know your preference when you RSVP by 7/25. I'll bring bottled water.

Where are we eating? Glad you asked. A few blocks south of the restaurant is Hibbard Park - 3000 Glenview Rd. in Wilmette. It's at the northwest corner of Skokie Blvd and Glenview Rd. http://www.wilmettepark.org/hibbard-park

At that address, you'll see a large building that looks a school. Take the driveway off of Glenview Rd. Drive around to the back of the building. You'll see some tennis courts. Next to the courts are some picnic tables. That's where we'll dine.

Looking forward to decent weather and seeing you on the 27th. As always, bring a friend.

Should work for me. I assume that non-residents are allowed to park there!

    Thanks, Will

Yes, Will, minion-parking should be clearly marked.

Right now consider me in. Busy week for me, though.

I should be able to make it. Count me in.
No specific preference on the dishes from the party tray list, although I'm still questing for a decent Kung Pao/Bao that isn't full of junk veg like celery, and has that sour/garlic/ginger/chile hit that these days I can only seem to find in Fuschia Dunlop's recipe.

How's their hot & sour soup? Can we get a big container of that, and some foam cups?

I've never had it. I will inquire when I put the order together.

If a minion may, I would suggest that the EC order a bunch of things that we can all share, whether off the lunch menu or the regular menu. The party tray doesnt make sense to me because it is a lot of 1 thing, so with our small group we would only get to try a couple of things.

Will makes a good point. I will stop by there Wednesday to place our order. I will also inquire about a tub of hot and sour soup.

    Last chance to RSVP folks.....

Count me in. I am happy with whatever you order.

Good news and not so good news.....

Good news = I ordered a bunch of different items off of the lunch specials menu.

Not so good news = They don't make soup during the summer. "Nobody orders it. Too hot outside!"

Note - there's a park district day camp on site. They'll finish lunch by 12:15. WillG will be in charge of shooing them away from our picnic table. 8)

    See y'all tomorrow.

A great LTH North Lunch Group picnic yesterday. Surprisingly, there was minimal discussion yesterday relating to food. The Kung Pao met JoelF's criteria. No children were harmed in securing a picnic table.

Despite the lack of soup and no mustard sauce for the spring rolls, I think my job as EC is still secure, for now.

    Until next month....

The Kung Bao minimally met my requirements: High points were nicely cubed chicken with a good wok hay, no sweet glop and no surplus vegetables (just bell pepper). I'd still like more heat, more garlic, more ginger, more vinegar.
