Hi- I also post on mashupmom, which used to be a deals site similar to Jill Cataldo, but there aren't as many coupons being printed, and there are not as many deals out there. Rachael has radically redesigned her website, and now refers to it as real food for real people. She has mostly done away with processed food, and cut way down on the amount of sugar she consumes. She also does at least 75% of her grocery shopping at Aldi's, and just came out with a book on kindle titled Almost all Aldi's.

When she redesigned her site back in January, she said she was going to start going to the farmer's market this summer. She lives in Lombard, and she told me that she would go to the Downer's Grove farmer's market, but the parking is a pain. I think it is hard for her to justify spending the money at the farmer's market too, when she can get her produce so cheap at Aldi's and Pete's. Lately there has been an app that has cash back for produce, and for a few weeks she was going to Aldi's and purchasing one avocado, one bunch of broccoli and one package of mushrooms, and submitting the receipt, and getting $3 put in her paypal account. Their deals are not as good any more, and you get more like $.90 back.

I am not familiar with the farmer's markets in DuPage County. I tried to find out who sells at Downer's Grove, and they don't have the list of farmers on their website. Where is the best farmer's market in the Lombard area? Thanks, Nancy

The Wheaton market (held on Saturdays) is the best one that I have found in the area, though I have not made all the rounds. It's the only one that gets close to what you'd find in the city.

I don't know how far afield you want to go, but the Naperville Farmers' Market at the 5th Street Station is good (on Saturdays), as is the oldest Farmers' Market in Illinois -- Aurora, which is at the transportation center on Broadway, also on Saturdays. One family farm has been there since the inception, if I'm not mistaken.

If you head out to Aurora, you can stop at Harner's in North Aurora (State Street) for some good German doughnuts, maybe hit the Woodman's in North Aurora....
