Shwe Myanmar Grocery Store

I recently happened across a Burmese grocery store just off Devon. I only had a couple minutes to poke around, but I did get to pick up some pickled tea leaves and eyed some packaged noodles that have me craving a bowl of Oh No Kauk Swe.

Thanks for the exciting news. It's been tough to find Burmese ingredients in Chicago. The حلال (halal) on the sign suggests Shwe Myanmar is Muslim, so I'm guessing they have somewhat Indian-tinged stock (Rakhine State, where many Burmese Muslims are from, borders Bangladesh). When you compare the Burmese Muslim markets in Fort Wayne to others (say, Mon), you see significant differences. There appears to be a substantial Burmese Muslim population in West Rogers Park (the Rohingya Culture Center is on Devon, half a mile west of Shwe Myanmar). Maybe one of these days Chicago will get a Burmese restaurant.

Does the new grocery store have any Myanmar prepared food items for sale or its all shelved individual items to prepare meals at home?

It was all shelved from what I saw. The woman at the register (I'm guessing the owner) did have some fresh betel leaves sitting in a container in front of her.

Rohingya refugees are being settled in several northside neighborhoods, including West Rogers Park (and we're glad to have them!). I need to check this place out. Thanks, turkob, for the info.
