I was looking on Kickstarter and it appears as if Taste of Brasil is trying to create a hot sauce made from the little known (in the US) Malagueta pepper. 27 days left but not much money raised so far, so if you support their cause show some love!

My kids handled this news akin to losing a pet - it has been a weekly haunt so close to home. Homemade blended strawberry lemonade and frozen cheese bread from Costco aren't going to cut it, and my supply of "I'm Hot" Sauce - which was a complete success even after the Kickstarter linked above didn't achieve its goal - is perilously low. I do hope they reopen (as Christiane muses) somewhere in Chicagoland, not holding my breath for an Oak Park reopening, even with dreams earlier this year of a second location:

So ToB and Piggyback both victims of landlord/neighbor issues? And Katy's is just a cluster? So sad to lose Brazil, BBQ and Katy's all at once.

I'm new to the OP area and enjoyed Katy's a few times but it's been about a month. I read about the new owners but I hope they're able to right the ship. Can someone shed some light on what happened with Piggyback?

I know they have gone downhill, search the site. This conversation might be better there.

I know Piggyback opened a downtown location near Lake/Wells a few years ago, but they ran into the buzzsaw of Blackwood (a few blocks away) and could never seem to get the quality/consistency that their early days in FP had. Don't think it was open more than 6 months or so.

While I will mourn the loss of ToB and their sweets and savories I was concerned when the family was no longer working there. When the owners mother would come out of the kitchen from time to time, working the crowd...

In the mean time, Addis Cafe just over the expressway is doing a good business.

Addis was hoping to add some more substantial items to the menu but the arrangement of the building and zoning has pushed that back, maybe permanently (it has been a year or more since I last talked to them about it).

Hopefully they can follow the lead of Cafe Descartes and offer a daily savory with the occasional pop up extended menu?

Edit: Just talked to the owner and she mentioned that they have done 3 pop up savory ethiopian events. Email distribution only.
