If this "long gone" restaurant is in fact, Brother Jimmy's, I'm officially as old as dirt.
That was what i was thinking--not only do I remember it, but I went to the opening because friend's friend was the owner. And it was damn good. First time I ever had Carolina-style BBQ sauce.
I went only once, not long after it opened in 1992 (I think Chicago Bar Project's opening date is incorrect). That's about 25 years ago, a different era to me. I had no idea Brother Jimmy's lasted until around 2001 (it was revived briefly at a different location). It's not like we're talking about DeJonghe's or Henrici's, but still that's over 15 years ago.
For those who'd like to relive the
Brother Jimmy's experience, it seems the mini-chain is still around, with a half-dozen locations in and around NYC, and one each in suburban DC and West Palm Beach.
