Today, 9/18/17, is National Cheeseburger Day. Even though I never realized that such a day exists before now (and I wouldn't even know now, if I hadn't heard a woman on the radio talking about it), I couldn't let the holiday go by without participating. Sadly, at lunch time I was stuck in the burbs, traveling between meetings and well outside of striking distance of Red Hot Ranch, or any other burger stalwarts. I ended up stopping at a Culver's for a Culver's Deluxe. Not a bad burger at all.

I always find out about National "Pick a food" Day after it's too late. I already have dinner and dessert made.

I went to Czech Plaza for national "what in the holy fuck does anyone see in this place" day. Seriously. Shittiest meal I've had in ages. I'd love to see some nice cheeseburgers after that.

I didn't know about NCD until this morning when I received a text from Dear Franks in Niles informing of a 1/3 lb cheeseburger special with fries and a drink for $7.99 in honor of the big day. Coincidentally, I was across the street at the Fresh Farms mothership. It was 10:30. Time for brunch!

I'm not a huge fan of the burgers here. I usually go for a polish. The cheeseburger was fine. Foodservice grade fries are served piping hot. The folks behind the counter are genuinely nice.

    Nice looking burger!!

I didn't quite have a cheeseburger, close with leftover meatloaf on a burger bun. Looks messy, ate tasty.

Shake Shack had a deal today from 11:00-2:00, where if you ordered one of there burgers on line and had it delivered, it was free. They were trying to promote this delivery service they use. I did not find out about this until 1:00, otherwise I would have posted it here.

So, how was the Shake Shack burger?

Ha! me as well. No burger today as the chef at work cafeteria is catering some (what should be) top quality BBQ. Pitmaster has been in our parking lot for almost 1.5 days smoking brisket, pork shoulder, chicken, lake trout. I'm looking forward to all but especially curious about the lake trout as it is a favorite fish for me & Mrs Willie.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Dear Franks in Niles has frozen fries. The one in Deerfield has fresh cut. Never had a burger at either, but do not get a beef there. I always get the (natural casing) Vienna hot dogs, can't go wrong.

You're correct about the fries in Niles. I also seem to remember that they don't use natural casing dogs there, either.

I haven't been to Dear Franks in Deerfield in some 20 years, but I remember the beefs being fairly good. The fresh cut fries were always good. I do remember the natural casing dogs as very good also. Those were typically the only things that I got there. I always thought Scooters in Lake Bluff was very similar to Dear Frank's in their offerings. I would go back to either anytime.
