Dear LTH friends who have read the first 4 parts of my long story of French restaurants in Chicago.
I just wanted to let you know that I just posted on my blog, French Virtual Cafe (http://frenchvirtualcafe.blogspot.com), the Fifth and final part of my retrospective on French restaurants in Chicago: the 1990s. The whole story covers the 1925-1999 period.
It is a research and writing work that took me 6 years to complete.
I hope that some of you who have an interest for the history of foreign food and restaurants in our town will find some time to take a look at this last part that deals with the last 25 years of the last millennium and that it will generate happy memories.

Great read, Alain. Just FYI, the opening pastry chef at Marché was Audrey Craig. Her fruit tarts and chocolate-focused desserts were amazing. I am biased as I apprenticed under her and want her to receive the recognition as both chef and awesome mentor.

I greatly enjoyed all of the previous installments of your narrative, Alain, and I'm looking forward to reading through this latest one thoroughly. Thanks very much for making it available.

    A true labor of love!
I have enjoyed all your installments!
Thank you very much for the effort!
My only addition would be that one of the unique features of Brasserie Jo was a ‘Zinc’ bar for cocktails and you could also eat at the bar which we have done. Champagne by the glass and a nice Alsatian combo plate were available.
I believe there is only one manufacturer still making Zinc (actually pewter) bars in France and they are available in the USA! (Nectoux).-Richard
