So sad about Aurelio's closing. I saw this post one week too late. On another note, Diamond Fresh Seafood moved further down the street in Lake Zurich and was renamed Franco's Pescheria. It is a fish market/restaurant combo. I think that they opened up their new location this past June.

There's already a place called Nighthawk across the street from the Kimball Brown Line stop. It'll be interesting to see if they squabble over rights to the name in this market.

I had a taste for some Tex Mex over the weekend so I walked over to Adobe Gilas in the New City mall only to find it closed. The location is still listed as open on their website but the phone goes directly to voicemail, the facebook page and twitter feed for the location have been deleted and it no longer appears in the mall directory. Yelp indicates that it closed in early September. Can't say I'm surprised, I didn't go there often but when I did I was usually the only customer in the place.

Forum 55, the Loop's newest food hall, soft opens Tuesday
The food hall trend looks as if it’s here to stay: Forum 55, the newest food hall to set up shop in the Loop, will open at full capacity Oct. 23 but soft-opened Tuesday, says a representative.

Other options like Flo & Santos, Mercadito Taqueria and Sparrow Coffee will serve sandwiches, salads, pizza, tacos and coffee. As previously reported, Butcher & Larder Grill, helmed by Rob Levitt (who runs whole-animal butcher shop Butcher & Larder from within Local Foods), is one of the big surprises and draws. Pork & Mindy’s, Friends Ramen and Sushi, The Sandwich Shop and omelet bar Prelude, plus grab-and-go items from Monroe Street Market round out the remaining options.

A rotating weekly pop-up will provide items like Korean food, vegetarian food and made-to-order pasta. Another offering, dubbed The Apron Exchange, will host minority-owned businesses, with Pilsen’s Dia de los Tamales the first up to bat.

Hey, that's good news. I like the pizza at SLYCE.

So, 254 Green Bay Road, that was Ginger's (owned by "new" owner of Alex's Washington Gardens) until it closed, and Bridie McKenna's before that. The Irish pub decor is really attractive; I hope SLYCE doesn't tear it all out.

I like SLYCE's pizza but am glad to see that Scornavacco's pizza (locals know what I mean) is still available at Alex's Washington Gardens next door. I wish it were easier to go to Alex's; the limited hours (5-9 pm Sun-Thurs, 5-10 pm Fri Sat) are an obstacle.

Nostalgia matters more to me than critique, so I'm also happy when I have a chance to eat pizza at the Nite N Gale or at Buffos. The more reasons to eat in Highwood, the better, I say.

I had SLYCE many years ago. It was decent from what I can remember, and they'll probably do well in Highwood. I have to admit I have never cared for the Scornavacco's recipe pizza at Washington Gardens or when it was at Gingers. I agree the Irish Pub decor in there is nice, so we'll see if they tear it all out.

I agree there is a nostalgia factor having been in the area since 1979. Buffo's has their own recipe which is unique and sometimes it'll hit the spot, but it's also a no big deal pizza to me. Surprisingly Nite N Gale has a great thin pizza that I always forget about. I need to have it again. Aurelio's mentioned in the Tribune coming to Highwood back in 2015, but I never heard another word about it. Even though it's not technically Highwood, Il Forno is my favorite of all of them in the Highwood area. I think if they moved into Highwood where the action is, and had an atmosphere like the Deerfield location, it would be a lot more popular - especially for dine-in dinner.

I do agree that Nite N Gale makes a very fine thin-crust pizza. I haven't actually had pizza at Alex's WG or Buffo's for quite a long time. Il Forno's in Ravinia was a favorite when I was growing up in HP; I don't know how the current Il Forno's pizza compares. Guess it's time for me to do some pizza research in Highwood! (Any LTH Northerners who want to join me, let me know.)
