Unfortunately I have no time to bake one, but does anyone know of a good place to buy a sugar-free pumpkin pie? Other than Jewel.

    Thanks!

Wow, this is a frustratingly difficult question to answer. It just doesn't seem like Chicago bakeries are very friendly to those who can't eat sugar. If you can actually find a sugar-free pie at Jewel, you might have to go with that.

I did find this place, which will ship a sugar-free pumpkin pie, but they need a few days' lead time:

Are you just trying to avoid added sugar, or is your recipient a diabetic trying to manage their condition via diet? I ask because pumpkin and pie crust by themselves are relatively carby, so even if there's no sugar, they might not be able to enjoy it.

Good luck tracking this down! And if you find a bakery specializing in sugar-free or carb-free items, please come back here and let me know. Thanks!

If you are willing to travel to Oak Park, check out the Happy Apple Pie Shop ( contact Michelle the owner- she is always there and answers the phone and will do special requests). I would ask her if she could do a sugar free pumpkin. I believe she has done sugar free apple via special order in the past.

I would think it was easier, in any case, just to make it yourself. I have had baked goods made with Splenda (the baking version) and they turned out well. Pumpkin pie is not hard to make, easier still if you buy a decent pre-made pie crust.

I was curious to hear whether you found anything suitable...

Mariano's has sugar free pies but I don't know if they have pumpkin. They do have cherry.
