Sorry, what do you mean by rice?
The cake looks great, by the way!

I made the corn muffins stuffed with BBQ pork and they were fantastic. The roast made enough meat for at least two more meals next week and two extra sandwiches yesterday. I used the recipe suggested by lougord99, mixed it with Sweet Baby Ray's, and placed a tablespoons' worth of meat on top of a 1/3-filled cupcake cup, then topped it off with more batter, just enough to cover. Very tasty. I think these will be making an appearance next year too.

I'm already starting to think of this year's party and got the idea to make a horror movie-related buffet.

    So far:
Dead Alive Vanilla Pudding with marzipan ears
Liver, Fava Bean and Chianti dip/pâté (if I can figure out a recipe, any tips would be appreciated!)
    Spaghetti with Se7en Herb Sauce
    Fleet Street Meat Pies

any good ideas for what to cook at home for halloween dinner in a neighborhood with hundreds or trick-or-treaters ringing the bell? something either fine at room temp or stew like or good on the go? is there grown-up substantial finger food?

We have a similar situation in our neighborhood. Traditionally, I make a big pot of chili, and we grab some between being on candy duty.

I got a pork shoulder going the sous vide route yesterday... but I bet you could put one into a crockpot with a nice rub, etc and it'd be ready for around dinner time. Pulled pork sandwiches are great for nights like tonight.

We must be very boring, it never occurred to me to make a special Halloween meal, we both get home from work dead tired just like every other day.

    Yesterday we had leftover Chinese.
