Chocolate & dried cherry coffee cake, ala Starbucks late 80s

Long ago there was a Starbucks at the corner of Dearborn & Harrison. No idea if it is still there. But in the late 80s/early 90s they carried a locally sourced coffee cake that had a fairly moist yellow base with chocolate and dried cherry sort of streusel thing if I recall. It was wonderful and I stopped going in once they dropped the cake.

Anyway, I’m wondering if anyone else (1) remembers this, (2) knows what baker supplied it and (3) maybe has a recipe to share. I’ve been haunted by this thing and want some. Now.

Judy's in Evanston (long closed) baked for them at one time (I still think about their lemon knots). Not sure about coffee cakes.

Sounds delish, but not the same. No oats, chocolate, dried cherries not fresh.

According to all the articles about that debacle, they only made lemon knots and carmelitas.

Off-topic, but I always loved the carmelitas at L'Appetito when they were in the Hancock building. I asked a few times where they got them from, but never got a good answer. So delicious.
