    a fascinating and thrilling article this morning in the NYTimes. a newly discovered rice in trinidad traces the history of enslaved people in the US through this food.

    you're welcome. the most important takeaway, for me, isn't just the historical journey the red bearded rice might have taken, but rather that it grows in dry ground. most rice needs to be grown in large paddies (water)- the rice in trinidad doesn't, so it could be a great new source of nutrition if it can be cultivated around the world in drier climates....
