Octavio has open in Andersonville. Owned by the same group as Lady Gregory's. A nice space. I went for brunch on Saturday. I was disappointed that the benedict that they have on the online menu is not actually available. The chilaquiles were good.

My recollection is that the owners of Little Bucharest also owned the Elston location, which they renamed after selling the Ashland location. They used the name Taste of Romania for a festival they ran.

Brothers Rodrigo and Julio Cano, who already operate Bien Trucha (Geneva), A Toda Madre (Glen Ellyn) and Quiubo (Naperville) restaurants in the western suburbs, are about to open their fourth concept. Santo Cielo, a slang term equivalent to “good heavens,” will open May 2 on the rooftop of the Hotel Indigo (123 Water St.) in downtown Naperville. It will be the brothers’ first non-Mexican restaurant.

Danada deli posted on their Facebook page they are closing at the end of the month. They are relocating to Roosevelt Road corridor in Wheaton but will have a couple of month hiatus while they get the new space ready. So we will be able to get their great soups and cabbage rolls again!!!

It's from the owners of the now-closed Tommy Nevins Pub. But if you had asked me to guess which Evanston restaurant it's associated with, I would have instead guessed the Peckish Pig. Pigs flying all over Evanston!

I'm very sad to report, but Danny's Egghead Diner has closed (2012 W Irving Park Rd). I've noticed it's been closed for at least a month and hoped they were going to reopen. sign on the door says they are close. Google search says they are closed. I'm bummed.

Thanks for the update. I actually just came here to look this up, because I saw a sign on the door when I was driving down Irving Park yesterday but couldn't read it. Too bad; it was a decent little place.

Dynamic United Market, International & Domestic Food, has opened in the old Golden Pacific spot. I would describe it more as a soft open as shelves are still being stocked. The seem to be targeting Jamaican, African and Asian items. We picked up a bottle of calypso sauce and will figure out what to do with some day.

Is it Matouk's? If its Matouk's Calypso Sauce the ingredient list is Pickled Scotch Bonnet, Mustard, Cane Sugar, Onion, Garlic, Celery Seed. and should pack a punch. I typically have one of the Matouk's Sauces on hand, I believe Matouk's produces 6 types.

It is Matouk's. What do you do with it?

Mizrahi on Clark in Lakeview appears to have closed. Windows are papered over and note on door says catering still available. Unlike the Highland Park operation which runs smoothly, this location was poorly organized but the food was good. Sad.

I first had Matouk's many decades ago eating oysters and drinking beer at the end of a pier in Key West. A couple of bottles of Matouk's were lounging innocently along with 7 or 8 other hot sauces. I slathered a tater tot with Matouk's popped it in my pie hole and Wow, bright hot serious heat punch with flavor. I've been in love with Matouk's ever since.

In direct answer to your question, I use as both ingredient and table hot sauce, add to soup, stews, mayo for sandwiches, drizzle on eggs etc. I'd guess if they sell Matouk's they also offer Marie Sharp's made in Belize, another super punchy habanero hot sauce.

If you enjoy this type of hot sauce Old World Market, an African centric market at 5129 N Broadway, has an amazing selection along with many others including the full line of El Yucateco.

Pretty much the same for me. I worked a few minutes away from there and thought I'd go a lot. I went maybe 2-3 times tops. I forgot all about it in the last few years. We have too many grocery stores around here. This one had to go. But even then, Mariano's and Heinens in Bannockburn with Sunset Lake Forest up the road. Whole Foods and Jewel in Deerfield. Trader Joe's (always crowded), Mariano's and Sunset in Northbrook. Sunset and Jewel in Highland Park (both of which do very well). Fresh Thyme just never caught on. I didn't know anyone who regularly went there. And soon the big boy is opening - Woodman's on the edge of Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove.

Does anyone know the story of what happened to change El Tipico to El Catrin? Have personal interest in this due to having been condo owners in the building that Faby and Hector built and lived in for awhile.

Animale is re-concepting a bit to Langhe Market, per their Facebook page. Not surprised they're trying something different, as it was always pretty quiet in there when I walked past on way home from Blue Line. I liked their food, but it was just enough too expensive to be a random weeknight "too tired to cook" alternative to pizza, tacos, or Thai.

Just guessing, but maybe that Lincoln Square restaurant was forced to change the name due to legal rights of the longtime Skokie restaurant of the same name.
