    Help!

Found this among my mom’s kitchen gadgets, I haven’t the slightest idea what it is, what it does, what it is called, etc.

For the fun of it, I used google's search by image. The response will not settle anything: cylinder.

Maybe an early version of a lemon/lime/orange zester / grater?

Reminds me of the lever attached to aluminum ice cube trays (which, surprisingly, are still available for sale).

Lack of the little fins that separated the cubes makes that unlikely, tho....

It's a jar opener (for things that come in large mouth jars, like pickles, etc.). I made hundreds of those in grade school Junior Achievement.

You fit it hand tight to the lid, then squeeze the little lever to tighten the "jaws" and use the handle to give you leverage to unscrew the lid.

On a second look, yours may be missing the part that grips one side of the lid.

Here's a picture of one complete, you can figure out if the green thing locks the jar or if maybe the missing part is elsewhere in your mom's hings.

Try hooking the end over one side of the jar, sliding the green thing forard as far as possible, I suspect there will be some "spring" action, press down on the top to lock it in place then twist. Note also that the back end is a flat blade for pry off lids.

You guays are great, thank you! I think it IS missing that piece, but I’m a sucker for vintage junk like this so I’ll keep it.

I swear my grandmother used to have a hoopy kind of thing for whisking in egg whites for Passover cakes. Never did find that.

    Thanks again!

Here's one for sale with pretty good pictures showing how it's used.
