Today's USA Today (only grabbing it in the hotel for the Sudoku, really) had an article on dining in Chicago.

Featured resto was Gene & Georgetti's, and they're very appreciative.
Others mentioned include Al's #1 Beef (probably because of Leno), Army & Lou's, and Lem's

On Superdawg, they say, "The Chicago-style hot dog featuring over-the-top toppings has an overinflated reputation perhaps" -- libelous. They also mention Portillo's in the same paragraph, as if they were equivalent.

on Malnati's, more poor journalism: "were among pioneers of the deep-dish style in the 1940s" -- not quite the right story.

Joel, this may be nit picking, but I am pretty sure the Leno connection is with Mr. Beef. Al's probably shows up because they have a PR and Ad agency for their ongoing franchise push.

Having said that, Al's #1 deserves recognition, IMO, while Mr. Beef, yawn.

    Thanks for the link.

    Yeah, I think you're right.
Take me out of Chicago for a week, and I forget everything.
I *so* want to be home. Eight more hours.
