Toria, iirc, you are in the Big Guys area once in a while? The turkey reuben has made it to the regular menu. If they have corned beef, all you have to do is ask. Any special way you'd like it done, just ask.

Haven't had one for ages, but I used to like the ones that Gino Gamberota at Manny's used to make for me when I worked on the same block and ate lunch there daily. Sometimes I'd have him spoon a dollop of cole slaw on top for something different. And...pretty darn good with rare roast beef & horseradish, too.

I had a reuben at Steingolds that I really enjoyed. It's a pricey version but I would definitely get it again.

From a more traditional standpoint, I had one at max & bennys a few months back. Always a good option.

And while it's not a reuben, I did have the pastrami sandwich at Tempesta on Saturday which was fantastic.

Reubens are in my top five favorite sandwiches!

Not to stir the pot after commenters being aghast at a turkey reuben, but the "reuben" at the Chicago Diner is fantastic. Yes its vegan but it really captures the spirit of the traditional preparation and is fun to eat.

Of course I love a traditional rye, corned beef, swiss, kraut and 1,000 island too...and the best version is one I make at home using Kaufman's meat/bread and sourcing the rest from jewel or wherever. For me it's all about the proportions and the crispy bread and warm fillings you achieve using a panini press.

Thanks for the tip, will have to try this. I love reubens and also had a great vegan reuben at City O'City in Denver a few months ago. I know it's sacreligious, but it was probably as good as any reuben I ever had.

I don't know if it qualifies as great, but I get the Reuben at the Vienna beef factory about once a month. No frills, and at about 8 bucks it's a pretty solid deal.

At least they did it on the regular rye bread and not that dark stuff I hate. I am not a fan of tater tots. I'd rather have regular fries. I just might have to make a reuben myself at home but its not easy finding good corned beef where I live. I guess the deli counter at Marianos has it. How good it is, I don't know.

I chose tots. They also have fries and house-made potato chips at Stormy's.

While we're on the subject, has anyone seen a good fish Reuben? Clearly not the same thing but I've had excellent versions in Florida and South Carolina. Generally breaded grouper on griddled marble rye with swiss and cole slaw instead of kraut. Years ago the Berghoff had a cod version on Fridays, but I haven't found one anywhere else.

Berghoff's fish Friday was definitely halibut - big chunky breaded fried greatness.

The Friday fish @ Broker's in the CBOT was also pretty good - but more for the pure size of it being bigger than your head....

I'll never forget the best reuben around was at Stein's in Lyons on Ogden. Miss that place all the time.

This is getting to the point similar to how anything that can be poured into a Martini glass is now somehow a Martini.

So whats the definition now? Anything on Rye with kraut and swiss is a Reuben regardless of the protein? Wait, I guess coleslaw instead of kraut is mentioned on some of these, so that's OK too?

It's a turkey sandwich w/swiss and kraut on rye or a fish sandwich on rye with coleslaw and swiss.

As for Appletini's, chocotinis, pomo-lemontini, or anything else poured into a martini glass........THEY ARE NOT MARTINIS.

Split many, many, many, of those fish sammiches on Friday. And I mean a shit ton. And a whole buncha italian subs with hot from...damn, can't think of that place, but when it was a slow day, we'd order 20 of those things. Those were the days...not sure how I woke up so early after some of those nights.

Fontano's on Jackson? Always liked their hot because it was actually hot.

There's so many sub options in the area, I'm not too confident it's the one you recall though.
