Are there any places that sell the kind of landjaegers that are made in the wood form in the northwest suburbs? We used to get them from the now defunct konnemans. I’m sure some place is nearby us in Lake Zurich. I can’t call places, because I can’t hear on the phone because of a hearing loss, and my driving range is limited. Any help?

    There's Stiglmeier: https://www.stiglmeier.com/product/landjaeger/

Located not far from you in Wheeling, but location doesn't matter because they don't have an outlet store. Sales to individuals are online-only. Note it's too late to order for the holidays, however; website says orders placed today will be shipped Jan. 7.

After driving around to several butchers, meat markets, delis, my last hope was Bende’s in Vernon Hills, and lo and behold they had them! Terrific store, I even got some very interesting cold meats.

I did find the skinny ones at Garden Fresh in Mundelein.

Was that place full? I have only been there a few times to find it largely vacant. You have to know where it is in the middle of an industrial park.

Glad you found what you wanted. I am still so sad about Konneman's. It did not come to a pretty end.

Vienna Beef makes an excellent smoked salami stick. The can be purchased at the Factory Store, located at 2501 N Damen in Chicago. They're also aavailable on Amazon. Call the Factory Store for pick up to be sure of their stock on hand. https://www.viennabeef.com/shop/beef-stix/

Try Shop & Save in Niles (West side of Golf Mill) or Des Plaines (River Road North of Miner). They've got a lot of smoked sausages of various mitteleurope types.

Remarkably, they had lots of items from Konnemans at Bendes. And it was mobbed. I also found out that what I thought were the skinny landjaegers I bought at Garden Fresh were the fat ones too.

It looks like just the store was closed and Konneman’s sausage factory is still operating. I’m going to try ordering something smal off their website and see if they deliver it. I’ll let you know the results.
