I don't know if this helps, there was a Mr. Ricky's in Skokie, which was owned by Rich Melman's father.

    Hey
I remember the buffet, also there was a hot dog place in Skokie near the mall and the theater . U grew up in wilmette. What about the gyro place next to the theater ? The ground round. When I was diagnosed with terminal c I begin thinking about all those places. What was the name of that hot dog place and the gyro place do u know?
    Thanks

The gyro place next to the Wilmette theater is the Chuck Wagon; still there and still good.

Just saw this thread. Agree, had the duck many times. While it wasn't a cheap restaurant, I felt it provided great value and went many times.

Thank you thank you. I slung dogs at hanks, and I've been racking my brain for the name. For a while there was teen "nightclub" right next door too. My mom cooked most weeknights but Sunday night was take out: wesleys or la rosa on dempster or big herms and there was a Chinese place I think it was on main just west of Crawford. Mid 70's there was a geasy spoon breakfast lunch place on main just west of mcormim on north side of street. 1st place I had a garbage omelet.

Wesley's...Big Herm's...Hershey's...La Rosa... sure but this is the first mention I've seen of the Chinese spot on Main W of Crawford and the greasy spoon breakfast spot on Main W of McCormick. Fine memories on both counts for entirely different reasons of course. (I also am unable to recall either of the names.) Great catch - thanks!

The greasy spoon breakfast spot on Main St was Morry's. Subsequently, it became LTH favorite and GNR Patty's Diner.

The Famous Elliott's Pine Log Restaurant and Lounge was nestled in three wooded acres in Skokie, Illinois. Destroyed by a fire in 1955, the Pine Log came back stronger than ever. It was the place to go for special occasions. The menu was fabulous and included their very popular roasted duck. Check out their history with some great images.

Elliott's survives to this day. The son of the original owner operates Elliott's on Northwest Hwy in Edison Park.

Dave--I loved Patty's ham hash, and haven't anything remotely close to it since.

The garbage omelette was my regular thing.

Probably is down to the dirt now. But in its heyday in the '60's, it's where my dad used to put up clients from out of town. And later on in the '80's, besides Tessy's coffee shop (where Teamsters Central States Pension Fund comptroller Allen Dorfman ate his last meal in 1983--hope it was good), T.J. Peppercorn's was a fine place with a great brunch. Guess things don't last forever.

History of the Hyatt/Purple Hotel and current status of the site are thoroughly discussed in this blog post. New restaurants may yet arise there.

As of last week, the property is up for sale again. Who knows when something will happen?

They've been saying for years how the land where the Purple Hotel stood is a gold mine logistics-wise, but is it? Yes, it's close to the Edens, but most times of the day Touhy Ave. between that spot near Lincoln Ave. and the Edens is gridlock, a real pain to drive through in either direction--I avoid it except when I have to visit NYB&B.

And frankly, there's not that much land there. Those previous plans looked like they wanted to build a whole new village in that spot.

Glad to see Richard's Drive-In mentioned but it might not be the one my aunt and uncle took us too in the mid-1950's. It was a franchise called Richard's featuring the Twin Burger. Best burger I ever had before becoming life long vegetarian at age 25. In 1969 we moved from our house in Skokie on Kostner Ave. off of Church St. to live at the Old Orchard Condominiums directly behind the Chances R Restaurant.
