It's funny how you can live in a neighborhood for a bunch of years yet still not visit all the restaurants in the area. If it wasn't for the recent Edgewater International Women's Day Crawl, we still might not have tried Ben's Noodles and Rice. They were a stop on the crawl and had a nice spread for participants. Moreso, they were very gracious and welcoming, which made us want to go back another time. There is one brief mention here.

We placed an order to go last night. Cucumber salad, shrimp shumai, ginger chicken (stir fried with fresh ginger, mushrooms, onions, carrots, pea pods and peppers) and red curry with shrimp (a delicate mix of red curry in coconut milk with bamboo shoots, green peas, bell peppers, and sweet basil leaves.) The food was fresh and tasty and we had enough for another meal. My only quibble is the ginger chicken was light on the ginger. The staff was again welcoming and friendly. We are totally adding this to our rotation.

Ben's has been my go-to Thai spot for most of the 14 years I've lived in Chicago. Their pad thai is my favorite of all that I've tried. I also love the baby egg rolls and the basil rolls. But, the staff is also super nice. There was period of time when I would call them while sitting in traffic on Lake Shore Drive every Friday to place my carry out order, and eventually they started greeting me with a "Hi Stephanie!!" as soon as they heard my voice.
