What are your favorite international bakeries?

After nxtasy's comment, I realized I should have been more clear: bakeries that are located in Chicagoland and sell baked goods from international cuisines.

Do you mean (a) bakeries that are located in Chicagoland and sell baked goods from international cuisines, or (b) bakeries that are located outside the United States?

Assuming (a): I enjoy Wiklanski's, a Polish Bakery a little SW of Portage Park. Particularly, they have this little baked good--soft cookie-like--that look like a nut and are filled with something not unlike peanut butter but better than that.

Not too many, honestly. I asked because when I go out to buy treats for various work events, I usually end up at "American" bakeries. The other day I was at Markello's on Lawrence and picked up Guatemalan and Mexican cookies, and realized I should do that more often. But I'm not really aware of the best international places.

    Pie Lady -

Searching the site for "bakery" yields a number of options, some of which are international. The GNR list has at least two: Mekato's Columbian Bakery, Floriole. Chiu Quon is another. Explore and let us know what you find.
