Fries were hand cut, crisp, no black spots on them. They came unsalted, not sure if that was overlooked or cheese fries come unsalted because the cheese makes up for lack of salt.

My experience at Irvings is that fries are always unsalted. Must be policy. There are little salt packets at the counter which I always pick up.
Where there’s smoke, there may be salmon.

I grew up on Irvings. Their char polish and char burgers never failed me. Solid moz sticks and cross cut fries. I preferred their offerings over Mustards Last Stand and Hot Dog Island. However, recently I find myself going to Poochies. Char salami sando is tough to pass on.

I'm not used to having to salt my own food but I'm going to make it a policy to grab a shaker or packets at places like this just in case my food could use a little flavor boost. The fries were topped with Merkt's so had plenty of flavor (and salt probably) without any seasoning.
Poochie's has been on my to-go list as well, it's been a couple three years since I was last there. Think they have a new location as well? Had the salami sandwich the last time I was there, liked it but probably will go for a dog and cheeseburger next time.

Poochie's moved further east down Dempster a few years ago. Much nicer space.

I was going to Irving's in Skokie (Dempster and Bronx) back in the 70's and then later the locations on Lincoln near Devon and in Wilmette.

I can't remember the last time I ate there but I remember it wasn't memorable.
(Yes, I just wrote this - not Yogi Berra! )
