Highly regarded Quiote closes at 2456 N California on Wednesday. Well funded restaurant group opens gourmet "Mediterranean-meets-Midwest" restaurant 100 feet to the north on Thursday (name suggested Chinese when I first saw it, I'm so passe). Such is life in Logan Square.

I'm not sure of an exact opening date, but it should be soon. Mango Mango Dessert opening in Chinatown at 2161 S China Place. It is a mini chain that serves desserts focusing on Mango - Chinese and the first store started in NYC Chinatown in 2013. There's 5 locations in NYC (and 1 in New Jersey nearby) but also a few locations outside such as Houston, Dallas area, and Washington DC area. Been there many times - decent stuff. And Durian fans don't fear as there's some desserts with Durian.

Their business license was issued just a few days ago, so they should be open soon.

I believe it is acceptable to speculate about an opening here on LTHF.
Something is going to open quite soon as a take-away stand on the northeast corner of W. Belmont and N. Kilbourn Aves. :!:
This location has been a hot dog stand in the somewhat distant past.
The two {primarily Mexican} venues on the south side of Belmont at Kilbourn were closed by the City a while ago.

(splice in name here subsequently)

    Chicago, IL. 60641
    (not open yet, address corrected)

The Foxtrot Market at North and wells is open, replacing the Le Pain Quotidien that was "closed for renovations" for over a year.

There were some protesters around but I didn't stick around to see what their beef was.

Dog joint at 350 W, Armitage Ave. appears to be closed, windows papered up with a big orange sticker on the door and Yelp is reporting it is closed. Been a bad couple of years for that intersection.

The Abbey Is Coming Back Years After Fire Forced Its Closure — But The Pub’s Longtime Owners Have Nothing To Do With It

While the heartbroken Looney family fights to get their business back in court, a new group of owners plans to reopen the Irving Park staple as "The Chicago Abbey."

I don't normally root for a local business to fail, but IMO it's a slap in the face not just to the original owners to try to appropriate the decades of goodwill they put into the brand without compensating them for it, but also to the community who supported the original business. Unless they change the name before opening, I hope they fall right on their face.

A new sign for Aziz Cafe, offering Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine, has gone up on the building. There was a recent city inspection of the premises but I couldn't find any info about whether it passed or failed. At any rate a peak through the window looks like they're ready to open any day now.

This is about the restaurant on Hinman in Evanston.

email from Hearth wrote:Hearth Restaurant is Closing

    To our fantastic guests:

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing our closing on Saturday August 31st, 2019. It has been our honor and pleasure to get to know you over the years. The Hearth family will have memories and stories that will last a lifetime from our time here. We hope that is the same for you. With the Homestead being sold we felt this was the right time to close Hearth, we are happy to get the opportunity to say goodbye to you.

We believe the new owners of The Homestead will take great care of the building. They want to be an integral part of the neighborhood. They will be keeping the lounge open with a limited menu starting September 4th, 2019. They will be opening a new concept in the near future and we are eager to see what they can bring to our esteemed space.

Thank you again for your patronage and your stories. We hope you have enjoyed our time together as much as we have.

I don't know that this constitutes a closing so much as a re-branding, but the El Llano on Elston and Irving Park is being converted to a Brasa Roja. When they were first opening the signage in the window billed it as "El Llano-Brasa Roja" before they settled on just El Llano before opening. I guess now they've changed their minds?

2 bits of news for Lakeview specially Chinese food.

    1) Tea Ninja, a Chinese milk tea, bubble tea, fruit tea, slushi, etc place with locations in the Loop and the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, has opened up a location at 3139 N Broadway. They are having an event tomorrow (and Saturday?) according to a Facebook post with 1 buy get 1 50% off. Another Facebook post indicates it's already open and there might be 15% off during the soft opening. It looks like they also sell macarons and Hello Panda snacks.

This is in the former New Tokyo spot next to Banh Mi & Co.

    https://www.facebook.com/events/406267470246343/

    2) I have no idea when this opens, but a business license was issued on 8/20 for a new restaurant called Chengdu Aroma at 3227 N Clark St. As the name indicates, this should be Sichuan food. This is in the former site of Bites Asian Street Food.

In strip shopping center on south side of Willow Road between Ravine Way and Old Willow Rd, it will be on the east end of the center, next to Kohls. According to Eater Chicago, Fumare Meats is closed.

FULTON MARKET — Fumare Meats, a downtown deli in the French Market best known for its Montreal-style pastrami sandwiches, is closed at 131 N. Clinton Street. Though the website is still live, the deli’s phone number is no longer in service and it’s labeled “closed” on Yelp. Owners have not yet responded to a request for information.

Also, the American Chinese carryout restaurant Sums Chop Suey at 3753 Dempster Street in Skokie is closed.

Ramen Misoya's sister restaurant to open soon in Lakeview - Yakisoba Misoya - received its business license the other day. It's set to open at 2852 N Clark Street a little north of Diversey, next to 5411 Empanadas. I'm guessing this should open up soon.

    The Dickens Street Public House
    Featuring Spider City Brewing Company
    At Four Farthings....

...and yes, this has been their real name. As if it were the McDonald's Turf featuring bluegrass at Soldier Field...

...Has closed. There was a green sign on the door today that the business license had been revoked this afternoon.

    Image
While Four Farthings was never great - for the food, at least - the bar had old charm and lots of character. The most recent ownership had ripped out all the existing built-in furniture, closed the dining room for 3+ years, and replaced with dinky ikea-like furniture. I'm surprised the bad management had held the place together for this long.

This space was beautiful, it had potential as a neighborhood joint, and it was completely squandered. Here's to hoping that the Lincoln Park community can revitalize a neighborhood bar (has lost a series of them in the past few years).

If I recall correctly, the new management also fired a long time bartender or two, upsetting many of the neighbors. Always sad when management doesn’t recognize what made a place great and destroys it.

With Sedgwicks, Stanley’s and Gamekeepers also closed, this part of Lincoln Park is really lacking for the good neighborhood bar, aside from River Shannon perhaps. Hopefully a good operator can make something work in one of those spaces someday soon.
