My husband is turning forty this year, a milestone I passed several years before him and quite frankly, rather enjoyed, though he doesn’t seem as enthused.

Ever since we met, he has wanted to complete a steak-eating challenge. You know, Man Vs. Food style, finish this massive serving of meat that has felled many before you. I have long rolled my eyes at this request, but it seems it may be time to indulge him.

Google is unhelpful. Are there any steak-eating challenges in Chicago or the near suburbs (preferably north or west, but we can travel a bit for this)? No price range, really, this is a one and done activity.

I would bet that any steakhouse could accommodate a large steak request with a little advance notice.

But I recall seeing a double ribeye and porterhouse at Chicago cut which was pretty pricey. Don't recall how large it was though.

And guessing Milwaukee isn't an option but wards house of prime will cut you any size prime rib that you'd like.

I should clarify: he wants it to be a specific challenge that he can win. Like something the restaurant lists specifically challenging people to finish.

*shrug*. Some people skydive, some people summit Everest. My husband wants to eat a lot of meat all at once and be called victorious.

    Here some reasonably close places.

    https://www.foodchallenges.com/challeng ... sville-wi/

    https://www.foodchallenges.com/challeng ... waukee-wi/

    http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=contests&id=13611

The first two offer a plaque, but no freebies or discounts. The second place may offer the most enjoyable experience because you have time to enjoy the food, there is no time limit-you just can’t get up from the table.

If a trip to Janesville is in your future and you don't mind grill-it-yourself, I can give a qualified recommendation for the Beefeater Challenge at the Prime Quarter.

For $29.95, you grill a 40 oz. USDA choice top sirloin and are eligible to participate in a contest. If you eat all your dinner in less than one hour and 15 minutes, including a trip to the salad bar, a baked potato and Texas toast, you become a member of our Beefeater's Club®.

You'll receive one of these nifty medallions commemorating your amazing feat. On your next visit just redeem your medallion for one regular Prime Quarter dinner ($22.95 value).

It's been 18 years since I witnessed my college roommate taking this challenge on handily at the now-defunct Madison Prime Quarter, but I distinctly remember thinking it seemed like a pretty good deal and not all that difficult as these things go. (Much easier than our patented "try-to-eat-$25-worth-of-Taco-Bell" challenge.)

This is a road trip to Amarillo Texas, but the Big Texan has been doing this for 50+ years, and the usual "winners" are little tiny ladies, not truckers as you'd expect. It's free if you finish it, or $72 if you don't.

    Go for it!

Ok, Amarillo's a drive so here's some closer challenges: they're not steak, but maybe the practice will get you in shape for the real one.

This one is the only one I could find in town; at 3472 North Clark St, and you choose fillings for 3 sandwiches, and a half hour to eat all 3 of them:
    http://luckysandwich.com/#challenge

Also there's meatballs in Missouri; pancakes in Hawaii; Pho in California; a big fat deli sandwich on a 27 inch roll, also in Cali; and a 50 ounce burger, and sides, free if finished in 30 minutes, location: North Carolina.

Start eating. Send pictures. Good Luck.

Hmmm, I'm reminded of the W.O.P.R. in the movie War Games:
"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
Objects in mirror appear to be losing.

There's nothing wrong with your husband in my book. Back in my eating days I'd be up for this too. How can you not love the passion?
