Sitting in the what seems to be taking freaking forever construction on Dempster St earlier this week, I noticed a Grand Opening banner hanging in front of Hwang Soh Grill. I decided to roll the dice last night and check it out with my wife before a theater outing in Evanston.
We got there at around five. Only a couple of other tables were occupied. It's not a huge place. Gas grills at the tables. My wife and I decided to order brisket for two. Gas grill was turned on and the banchan parade began. A generous supply of thinly sliced meat appeared shortly along with a pile of bean sprouts and (I think) thinly sliced cabbage. Our server politely gave us a grilling lesson and away we ate. Banchan was replaced without even asking. Dinners include a small bowl of soybean paste soup. It was OK. Maybe it's an acquired taste.
All in, a satisfying meal. By the time we were ready to leave, all of the tables were occupied and there was a small line of folks waiting for tables. Our server mentioned that they've been open for about two months.
Dempster Street in Morton Grove is turning into one of my favorite local dining destinations. Count me a fan!
