    Hi,

There is a Hoagie Hut on Grand Avenue in Waukegan.

While not exactly what you requested but could be close...

    Hobo Steak Sandwich

    At...

    Poor Boy
    101 Roosevelt Rd, Maywood

An oblong burger (maybe chopped steak) done sub style and maybe on a sesame seed hoagie bun. I haven’t tried it yet but since seeing it on the menu it’s high on my list.

does anyone remember/know where to get a steak hoagie?

    Answer-
    Philly :P

When I lived in Philly- they had some strange names for familiar food items.
A "Sub" or "Italian-Sub"- was called a Hoagie.
A Grilled Steak Sandwich- called a "CheeseSteak"......

There were not sold as a combination- in Philly.

I've seen various odd combos in Chicago- Gymshoe, hello? but the original Hoagie was a Cold-Cut-filled sandwich on an Italian-Crusty bread.....

    and
a Steak Sandwich- maybe garnished with onions
    ImageCheesesteak by DDay209, on Flickr
    but not the "salad" fixin's
    served on a "Hoagie".

In my experience, a cheesesteak hoagie is fairly widely available in that part of the country. A cheesesteak with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and raw onion.

Not quite it. Sounds closer to a cheesesteak. Not a patty.

While the Hobo Steak Sandwich was on the menu board when I visited (for a Jim Shoo) 3 weeks ago when I dropped by last night I was told it had been removed from the menu and is not available anymore. :(

A fully loaded sandwich! Lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, mayo, cheese on toasted garlic bread (not a hoagie bun).

Actually a bit too much as it was a challenge to eat without the guts spilling all over.

A good tasting sandwich although the lettuce dominated. Might go without lettuce next time as that would be closer to what I remember the sandwich to be. I always order their basic sandwich (with everything) on my first try.

A great deal for just south of $6 including fries.
