Ive been to Smack Dab and few times and now that it's been on Check Please maybe now time for its own topic? Typical Check Please, no one on the show ever mentioned that the daily trio of house made donuts is vegan.
Ive had three different breakfast sandwiches, the breakfast hash and those vegan donuts and I can recommend all! You can do a build your own breakfast sandwich but the ones called out on the menu are excellent. The "Best Seller" has scrambled egg, bacon jam, garlic chive mayo on cheesy housemade biscuit, u can add housemade sausage or ham to it. The "Green Eggs and Jam" features scrambled egg, roasted poblanos, green onions and ham on herb cornbread. The "Aja" has scrambled egg, onion jam, ham off the bone, spicy aji aoli on a housemade focaccia. The breakfast hash has potatoes, yams, carrot and onions with a spice/salt blend browned up on a griddle with a sunny side up egg on top. If you or your family is vegan, this is right up there with Handlebar as a great vegan breakfast/brunch option.
Its a counter service setup at the moment, and there arent a ton of tables, but they have just added a indoor heated section to their outside patio which helps. Last time we phoned in an order and carried out, skipping the line which can be pretty long at times. They have also recently added pizza to the menu as well.
They are very socially conscious, and since their opening in 2015 they've donated more than $25K to local charities. They do a free community dinner every month. Its a funky little indie place that wears their progressive politics, veganism and LGBTQ orientation on their sleeves. (For those missing the Heartland, but its WAY better food!)
Its in a ugly strip mall on N Clark, but on the other hand, parking is easy!
