I live very close by to Wrightwood Skewers and, as I result, I really wanted to like the place. I ate there shortly after they opened and I found the service to be good, the atmosphere to be pleasant and the food to be perfectly serviceable (albeit maybe a wee bit overpriced). However, I have never been back. It's hard to put into words (well, for me anyway) but the place really lacked that special something that makes you want to return somewhere. The reason I didn't post about this place after I had eaten there (apart from the fact that I don't seem to be able to find time to post here recently) is that I literally couldn't really find anything to say about the food - good, bad or otherwise. The food really showcased the problem with a lot of so-called "Fusion" restaurants. There were influences on the menu from all over the shop - Thailand, Mexico, The Caribbean, even Russia - but the food lacked the personality and complexity of any of these cuisines. It was decent, but remarkably unexciting.
Having said that, it is close by and the owner really did seem like a nice chap so I will try to return sometime soon. We keep on meaning to go back, but there is just always something that sounds more tempting...
