Has anyone eaten at the restaurant in the former Campagnola space on Chicago Ave. in Evanston?

    Thanks

The restaurant is still under the same direction (chef/owner Michael Altenberg) and has been re-crafted as Bistro Campagne, the second location of his popular Lincoln Square French bistro.

I have never eaten at the Evanston location but I have eaten at the Lincoln Square location many times. I am told that the menus and ingredients are basically identical.

I have had many wonderful dishes at BC including a succulent leg of lamb and my all-time favorite charcuterie plate.

....good eats - simple, unpretentious, and full of flavor. Loved the mussels in particular, and the attention paid to the beer list was much appreciated by my Belgian-suds aficionado friend. Very reasonable for the quality of the grub, too. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

As of about two weeks ago (mid October), the Evanston Bistro Campagne has returned to it's original concept and name, Campagnola, serving Michael's version of Italian. I know this because I live next door.

While I really enjoyed the Bistro in Evanston (and still enjoy the Lincoln Square location), I was very happy to see the return to the old format. I prefer the lighter (and more sophisticated?) fare at Campagnola. Some of the items have remained on the menu, such as the pork chop, steak frites and some of the salads - luckily some of my favorites.

Speaking of Bistro Campagne in Lincoln Square, they've just changed to their fall menu which I like better than the previous. They have a macaronni and cheese that at $18 (or was it $16) is pretty pricey, but it hasn't stopped me from ordering it twice.

All in all, I'm glad to see the change in Evanston and will probably be frequenting Campagnola even more often than I did Bisto Campagne.
