Has anyone had Santullo's Pizza? It is supposed to be New York style slices and pizza. We are hunting for New York style pizzas we can get delivered and this is a place we spotted last night. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

decent, greasy thin crust... I love that you can order giardinera on the pizza. Of course, I won't call it NY Style because the pizza facists will arrest me for its poor representation of ____ and ____.

I like it for the area.

Never had delivery (i.e. a fresh whole pizza for myself), but fresh out of the oven slices are great. The slices that have sat out for awhile and reheated are not as good in direct proportion to how long they've sat out.

Some people say it's too greasy. I say that's why it's so good.

It scored 2 Forks in a 'Cheap Eats' review which appeared in today's Chicago Tribune.

I work on the 1600 N. block of damen, so am literally less than a half block away, and have santullo's pizza for lunch about once a week.

It's good, not great pizza.. don't forget also that piece is right next door, and is probably a bit better. I have fond memories of a pepperoni and banana pepper pizza from piece a few months ago.

For giardiniera lovers, Cafe de Lucca a few blocks north of North on Damen has a "Pollo Picante" panini: grilled chicken, smoked mozz, herb aioli, red onion, and giardiniera grilled again on a panini press. It's very good, actually.

I still personally love pequod's, which delivers to both the wicker park area and parts of logan square (east of Kedzie). It's not the same type of pizza, but it's an all-around great pie.

Pequod's delivers anywhere East of Kedzie? That's good to know. Definitely my favorite Chicago-style.

Also, the far too often overlooked Guy's Pizza a few miles west on North Ave is outstanding. They'll deliver to Humboldt and Logan Square, I'm guessing they'll trek out a bit further east as well. Excellent Chicago-style and thin. I believe Vettel is a big fan of Guy's... definitely in an odd spot, but if they'll deliver, try it.

Is that the same place as "Guy's Bistro"? The address sounds familiar. They keep flyering my building with quarter sheet, one-sided menus with like, 3 or 4 menu items listed. Seems like a waste of money to not distribute a full menu, if you're going to pay a street crew to hit neighborhoods.

I'm not sure if they'll deliver *ANYWHERE* east of kedzie. probably not to devon and kedzie. but kedzie is their eastern boundary of the delivery zone, according to the last person I talked to there.

Pequod's isn't cheap, but it's very, very good.

The very same. I think they have 3 different crusts: Thin, Pan and Chicago style. Both of the thicker crusts are very good.

Oddly enough, the fliers don't even mention the pizza (if memory serves.) They just list sandwiches and a wrap, IIRC.

At Guy's Bistrot is the thin crust crispy thin? How about the pan - is it REALLY thick?

I was wrong - it does mention the pizza, but only mentions the thincrust.

Here's the flier if anyone's curious.

Saturday afternoon, the corner of Milwaukee, North and Damen.

Looking for a place to eat with the band. Has to be cheap and quick and vegetarian friendly

Earwax is full, Sweet Thang is full, Filter is full to capacity with lounging hipsters, so forget breakfast foods.

Sick of felafels, sick of potbellies. Ok Santullos get's one last try. Santullos sometimes chooses to rise to pizza perfection. My last 4 slices have been indedible. We roll the dice one last time......... and seven out, house wins.

Charred cheese flavored boot heel is what I think I received.

Santullo, you've cheated me out of $3.50 for the last time.

Not great, but not bad. You could do a lot worse, e.g., Baci. Good location opposite Gene's Sausage Shop, astonishingly comprehensive menu for a little slice place.

Hey, I live right down the street from D'Gigios and order from there all the time. The pizza is pretty good, and the BBQ chicken wings are full size, plump, and come with hand cut fries. You'll be full on an $2.65 order of 5 wings, and that's tough to beat!

I had been to Santullo's a couple of times in the past and was mostly unimpressed. . . but I was aching for a NY slice and decided to give it another try. Today, I had a very good slice with pepperoni and caramelized onion. It didn't fold perfectly like I had hoped (the crust might have been a tad too thin in spots for a good fold), but the nice charred spots pleased me, almost like the ones I find at Lombardi's in NY (but not quite).

Anyway, I had written off Santullo's in the past for my NY fix, but today it earned its spot back, and probably at the top of the list for NY-style in Chicago. And while I love Piece a couple doors down, and even prefer it on most occasions, Piece and Santullo's serve very different style pizzas -- New Haven vs. New York.

$2 slices M-F from 3-5pm. Yesterday I was quite pleased with my sausage slice.

The crust is so thin that when reheating a slice, they have be careful in order to not burn the crust (dry) & yet crisp the bottom which has moisture.

I'd be curious how this pie is when fresh out of oven vs a reheated slice.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I think Santullo's is a solid foldable thin-crust slice joint. It's certainly better than Piece next door. If you go to Santullo's between 3 and 5 PM, it's 'happy hour' where all slices are $2, a great deal on such a large slice. This isn't just to get rid of leftover dried up slices; I've seen them making fresh pies to supply the happy hour rush.

I am a native East Coaster so I'm biased: I really like Santullo's pizza. While it isn't a good as Coalfire and some other places, it's as good as any pizza served at a NYC slice shop (i.e. very good but not as good as Totonno's, Patsy's or John's). Frankly, I'll take a Santullo's pie over any Chicago-style tavern-cut thin crust pizza.
