I generally don't use a garlic press, but when I am cooking on a weeknight after work, and when everything is pre-prepped so I have no other reason to get a knife and board out, I'll use a garlic press. Then again, I also buy pre-peeled garlic to make my life easier (those huge containers from Costco are incredibly cheap although difficult to use up).

The one thing I'll note is that there is a big difference between presses that have a plunger that goes into the chamber holding the garlic versus those that have only the two arms that are hinged together. I know I'm not describing this well but if you look at a unit that has a plunger (such as the Zyliss but there are others), you can see the plunger goes essentially perpendicularly into the garlic chamber. This is helpful in getting force into the right place and in pushing as much of the clove out as possible. I had one without a plunger and refused to use it. Now, I use one grudgingly.
