Dry(ish) Grape Soda Recommendations?

My new favorite bar in the city is the California Clipper, on the corner of Augusta and California. It looks like a David Lynch movie in there, and their house drink--made with grape soda from the gun--goes by the name Purple Martin. It's grape soda and Malibu coconut rum (both things I usually really don't like), served with a lemon wedge. It works very well. I'm a big fan.

My question to you is: does anyone know what kind of grape soda they're serving up at the Clipper? Or where I could get something with a bit more character than Welch's?

I guess you can always call the Clipper or ask the bartender.

I bought some Goose Island Grape Soda over the weekend at Aldi and it is dang tasty.

While I'm pretty sure this is not the one they'd have "on tap," you could try to replicate your drink at home with Grown Up Soda's Dry Crimson Grape Soda. They are a pretty good tasting line of sodas, the lemon is my personal favorite.

See, I really don't like the GUS brand. I think the sodas are incredibly weakly flavored. The ginger tasted about 1/5th as strong as I'd expect a "grown up" soda to taste, for example. Others were no better. I think IZZE is a much better brand in a similar vein. More assertive and more natural tasting flavors.

I can't remember the name for the life of me, but I was at Freddys Pizza in Berwyn and had this old timey grape soda and it was pretty tasty. They have it in the cooler, plus you can get some good pizza and gelato to boot.

Was the brand Filbert's?
