Post #1 - January 11th, 2006, 8:58 amThere was an interesting article in today's NY Times about the difficulties that small restaurants are facing in attempting to re-open, 5 months post-Katrina. The situation looks bleak for many of the storefront places that readers of this forum enjoy.

Anthony closed up Uglesich's before the hurricane hit, and apparently is enjoying his retirement. I tried to hire him for a catering engagement before the storm (as did several other people I know) and he was completely uninterested.
I see no reason, especially under the current circumstances, to think that he will re-open. The direct quote I got from him - "I'm retired".I exist in Chicago, but I live in New Orleans.

Post #5 - January 31st, 2006, 6:03 pmI have eaten at board favorites Dick & Jenny's and Brigtsen's quite recently and am happy to report that they are both back to their most excellent pre-Katrina form.
I've been encouraging people to make a trip down to N.O. to see the city for themselves. You really can't understand the magnitude of the devestation until you see it for yourself. There are enough hotels and restaurants open now in the French Quarter, CBD, and Uptown to make a trip worthwhile, and the city can certainly use the revenue.I exist in Chicago, but I live in New Orleans.
