I really think this is one of the best markets in the area. There's a great selection of produce--including lots of Mexican favorites, of course-- and every part of the pig, the cow, the lamb, the veal calf, and the chicken-- and an excellent and inexpensive deli--but today I draw your attention to some of the other treasures hidden therein. Consider filo dough, for example. They carry five or six different brands of frozen filo and another three or four in the dairy case. They also have zatter, and sumac, and grape syrup, and four brands of Nutella, and leen seed, and mais caucha para tostar and pandebono mix and dried whole potatoes. Oh, and bacon buns from the Racine Bakery. And lots, lots more. Worth more than a detour.

I've driven past there countless times but I've never stepped in. I'll have to check it out the next time I'm down that way.

Speaking of Racine bakery I just got an excellent cake there the other day. Some glorious strawberry and chocolate concoction that I had to resist finishing off the other evening.

Berwyn Fruit market great items: pork taco mix from meat case, nicely seasoned, onions, pepers, Fry it up with fresh tortillas and whatever condiments you like, easy cheap fresh and good; avocados, always half the price of supermarket and you can usually find ripe ones for immediate guac; Knob onions you can roast with Olive oil and salt, like adult candy; tasty carnetas for an even easier and faster dinner.

With the caveat that it was a little over a year ago, I was unimpressed with my visit to the Fruit Market - so much so that I abandoned my cart and left. I came for produce - mostly veggies - and the produce seemed weak and of poor quality. The prices were good but not killer.

In contrast I found some better produce at the Egg Store along with the usual interesting ethnic items.
