I'm sure quite a few have read the Sun Times article already. but in case you haven't:

*In the final minute, Gand folds an origami rabbit and, in an impromptu flourish, downs a shot of cognac from a ramekin.

*Cantu and his team wore green clogs and spoke to each other via headsets.

Should be interesting: Team Tru does Battle Fennel, and Cantu does Battle Beets. Unfortunately, compared to "Hamburger" and "Chicken" these may not get the same kinds of ratings.

I hope Cantu brings his inkjet printer for beet juice!

When we find out for certain the date these battles will air, we should convene in one of those sports bar settings and watch together. I'm sure it would be a first for the staff. Maybe we could enhance LTH forum "total media domination" with a 10 o'clock news report on the rowdy bar patrons celebrating the Chicago chefs' victories? No tangles with Chicago's finest, I hope, though.

Oooh-- nice idea to make it at Candlelite, gleam! At least we would have good pizza to eat. (The tease of virtual culinary delight is one of the problems of watching Iron Chef, I think.) And if we could get C2 to bring a jar of racoon, then maybe Candlelite could make up some Roadkill Thin Crust a la Cantu. Of course, for Tramonto, we'd HAVE to bring foie gras.

If anyone else is interested, PM me and I will post it on the Events Board and organize it when we know the relevant dates.

Talked with Cathy2 tonight, who indicated she could part with some of the racoon she brought back from this trip for the Candlelite event, should we arrange it. Seems to be some interest out there, based on messages received this evening.

So did you win? We want the scoop!!! If you did beat Morimoto I'm going to have to boycott your restaurant - just kidding!

Here's Morimoto with me, my brother, my cousins, and my grandfather.

I also proposed to my fiancee at Morimoto over dessert, so you can see that I'm kind of a Morimoto fan.

Now you're just encouraging Chef Cantu to create a dish that is simultaneously there and not there.

Hmmm, cryptic. . . In any case, we will have to wait to set up the party because the foodnetwork.com site has not yet posted the air date for the Cantu vs. Morimoto battle. (My money's on Chef Cantu, by the way.) I will post on the events board to get numbers and set it up as soon as I find out. Meanwhile, I'll check out Candlelite & make sure they are willing.

Not that I can tell. I did email the Food Network website and so far, have only received their auto response and the promise that they will follow up with more details later. That was a couple of weeks ago, though.

I received a response from the Food Network today, referring me to the Battle Schedule portion of their website. ':x' OK. . . . . so, no new information to report. Unless the schedule changes, Cantu vs. Morimoto will not be aired before the end of June. Hang on, fans.

    Update from the FoodTV page:
Tramonto/Gand vs Batali on July 30

No word on the Homaro Cantu battle there yet. An article at Fast Company says July, but that doesn't jibe with the FoodTV schedule.

We could even get them to put something up on the marquee outside...

I think it's a great meetup idea, which might be trumped only by watching Iron Chef Flay paired up with Giada, vs Iron Chef Batali paired up with Rachel Ray. Haven't heard about it? Oh yes--it's true. Food Network keeps rescheduling the broadcast date, tho.

In any event, this sounds like a great excuse to come out and have a drink with y'all, especially for the new folks like myself.

Yeah, but will anybody bet against Batali? At least Rachel's got some knife skills, might be competent as a sous/prep chef.
