I heard a rumour from a knowledgeable source that the folks who own the White Palace Grill on Roosevelt will be opening a 24 hour diner in a South Loop space that has sat empty for, lo, these many years, namely, the site of old Binyon's on the block of Plymouth Court just north of Van Buren.

Has anyone seen activity at the old Binyon's site?

If this is true, it should be a very nice addition to the dining options of the South Loop.

It was mentioned in Dish a couple weeks back. Lemme dig it up.

    .....

    From the 1/25/06 Dish:

George Liakopoulos, king of the all-night diners White Palace (1159 S. Canal St.; 312-939-7167) and Hollywood Grill (1601 W. North Ave.; 773-395-1818), is opening, yep, another all-night diner. The Plymouth Restaurant, located in the old Binyon’s space (327 S. Plymouth Ct.), is shooting for an April 1st opening. “On the main floor there’s going to be a 24-hour diner, downstairs will be a bar and grill, and then we go to the rooftop dining with a nice view of the Chicago skyline,” says Mark Grutz, director of operations.

Work is definitely being done at the old Binyon’s (soon to be Plymouth Restaurant). I haven’t been by too recently but here are a couple of pictures, one from last May, the other from November.

    R:

Thanks for the pics. Though I don't live there anymore, I still go back to the old neighbourhood fairly often but haven't been on that block since before we moved.
