I once knew a guy who was able to take off work on St. Patrick's Day as a "religious holiday" and spend it in McSorley's Ale House in Manhattan. I'm not sure what the Monsignor would have said, but I'm guessing that wasn't much of a consideration. As that time of year rolls around, I realize that I haven't celebrated the holiday properly in some time. What are the favorite St. Patrick's Day spots for LTH-ers? Specifically, where is a festive (but reasonably sane) atmosphere, preferably with music and corned beef. Oh, and is it true about the corned beef and cabbage pizza?
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

Peggy Kinannes Irish place is just down the street but it will be jammed! I'll probably just pick up a corned beef from Aldi- don't laugh,it's good.Just simmer it for a few hours and make some sandwiches...and get out my green food coloring.

We usually take in the very respectable Irish Breakfast at the Abbey Pub.

Two kinds of sausage, blood pudding, two eggs, fried tomatoes and fried potatoes. Served with very good homemade soda bread with raisins and butter. A pot of tea for me and a Guiness for the sir.

This is served every weekend, as we don't take it as a holiday we usually go the Saturday before.

They also offer a very good beer battered fish n chips (fluffy and crisp, fried to order, fish is thick, juicy and flakey), and looking at their menu - a curried chicken pot pie...[url=http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=7212]wasn't someone asking about those...?

I love Chief O'Neill's - was there a few years ago for their St. Patricks day (week) celebrations. They had excellent live music, delicious food, and a really nice, homey atmosphere.

The Celtic Knot will be having a good party. Nevins is a good bet if you are looking for the Big Crowd, Chief O'Neill's will have excellent music, Fado is a little Disneyfied for my tastes but so is St. Patricks Day.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

I also enjoy Chief O'Neill's on St. Paddy's Day. The owner plays the bagpipes wonderfully. There is traditional and modern live music and a great buffet. What I appreciate most is that different "crowds" hung out in different parts of the place. The buffet and tented area was mostly families. The live music venue was a mix of old, young and rowdy. The front room was definately young and ready to party. Something for everyone if you ask me.

The buffet featured some good "traditional" Irish dishes. If you want **the best** corned beef and colcannon on St. Patrick's Day, I recommend that you go to West Town Tavern. No traditional, but tasty! (A lot tastier than Grandma's!)

I'm a first generation Irish-American, and I stay home almost every St. Patrick's Day. I can't stand the drunks. When I have ventured out, my spot of choice is Goldy's - in Forest Park, one of the better Irish restaurant/bars I've been inside of in Chicago.
