Thanks for the plugs, Erik. Will start working on Mexico City restaurants next, then take a breather by covering all of Puebla in one post before moving on to Mercado de Abastos and Oaxaca.

Then, guess what? A BBQ trip to central Texas that included three Thai meals, including gorging myself at Vieng Thai in Houston. Let me just say you will be jealous... But I've already told you too much. ;-)

Great stuff, but there's a lot... it's going to take a while to digest all properly.

All right....where's the Oaxaca post. I just got back from 6 days and I had a great time. My post, but with only a few pictures will follow.

Question: in the Abastos market I bought some little round balls that were served in dulce (sweet) cannella (cinnamon) syrup. I believe I was told they were Cocojito or Cocoitas (mi hablo poco espanalo), but neither the folks at the hotel or anyone else could give me an English translation and I wasn't able to find it in the Lonely Planet World Food Guide-Mexico. Apparently, the eating method is to chew of the mushy outer layer, then crack the nut/seed thingy and eat the smaller seed (germ) inside.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Unchain your lunch money!

Thanks (or rather: korp kun, krup -- gotta get in the habit) Erik. The hardest one is behind me, hopefully they'll come faster now. Then perhaps I'll even get done with my trip reports on the bay area and Texas before I head for Thailand. Wouldn't that be a miracle.

Nick: thanks for the great reports and pictures.

I just put up photos from Puebla and most of my photos from Oaxaca. I just haven't put up the pics from two markets: Benito Juarez and 20 de Noviembre. It's hard to distinguish which is which. I wish I would have taken more photos in the markets with my film camera. Some of the pictures in Abastos look like postcards. I'm trying to finish my Mexico reports before I head for Thailand, but it's getting close. Only a little less than two weeks. I'll do Puebla next, then one on Oaxaca's markets and one on its food. (Then my Texas BBQ tour and my trip to the bay area for Asian -- Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Burmese --after that.) And somehow I need to toss in a couple Portland reports. Busy, busy, busy.

    Thanks for the plugs, Erik.
