    Hi, everyone!

Well, I am going to be throwing a smallish Mardi Gras party this Saturday and will be making some chicken and andoulle sausage jambalaya, muffuleta sandwiches, king cake, and bananas foster.

I need to know where would be a good place to buy ingredients. I'm thinking I could probably find stuff in the local supermarkets, but the harder to find stuff like file powder and may be tougher.

I'd like suggestions to somewhere close to where I am in Streamwood.

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    Thanks!

I recently purchased some file from Penzey's in Naperville. I think they have several stores in the area. I know there is one in Oak Park. They have odd hours so phone first!

You should easily find the pickled cauliflower and the mortadella at one of the many Italian markets/delis in the area.

Edited to add that there are a few Italian markets on Harlem located a couple of miles north of Oak Park. Freddy's should even have these items, but phone first.

I have purchased excellent andouille from Paulina Meat Market for Mr. X's fabulous jamalaya.

So, where can I find King Cakes selling in the NW Burbs? I may want to pick one up.

I've seen a post about paczkis too, again, where in the NW burbs? :)

    Thanks

    Hi,

If you looked at the paczki thread, then you would find sources in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights and Niles. These same bakeries might have the King cake.

Since some bakeries are making these exclusively for Tuesday. You should phone before going to see if they are available for Saturday.

Central Bakery in Mount Prospect has paczkis and King Cake.
    Enjoy!

Any ideas where to get a small heat-resistant plastic baby for a King Cake?
