no not chihuahua or poodle testicles...

i used the blue point oyster bar at halsted and randolph as a meeting place before bulls games. it was solid. nice bar. good chowder. sweet kumamotos. unfortunately, a few months ago it transmogrified into extra virgin. (insert kirk cameron joke here)

sorry if this has been covered in another thread, but the only oyster bar i could find mentioned here was davis street fish market which is inconveniently located in evanston, which i think is in the upper peninsula.

honestly. any ideas where i can sate my oyster jones? preferably at a bar?

    xoxo

    grrrrr,

How about the Dearborn St. Oyster Bar? I haven't been there in a while but I have a positive memory of my last visit.

    Grrrr,

Shaw's Blue Point Oyster Bar, located in the same space as Shaw's. Excellent selection of very good quality, though pricy oysters, chowders with real oyster crackers, good service though slightly crowded and frenetic atmosphere.

Now that Davis Street has done away with the oyster bar, and changed to horrid non trans fatty acid potato stars from delectable tater tots, Shaw's is my first choice for oysters. The only reason I don't go more often, or stay longer, is the slightly higher than normal very uncomfortable bar stool seating.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

I would second Dearborn St. Oyster Bar. I work right above it. While I have never had the oysters, oddly enough, I do enjoy the place. The seafood I've had there is usually pretty good, and the staff is quite friendly.

I've gotten tasty oysters @ The Drake's Coq D'or. One assumes they're also available at the hotel's restaurants.

As you enjoyed Blue Point, I think you'll also enjoy Shaw's Oyster Bar. Similar atmosphere - nice plasma TV if you want to watch a game while you're there.

Very reasonable and unpretentious, as well. Once you get your oyster jones fixed, try the chowders and gumbo--outstanding!

I noticed this week that the Dearborn Street Oyster Bar is no more. Space is empty.

Yes, I think Dearborn St. Oyster Bar has been closed at least a few weeks now....I just started working next door to it last month and it hasn't looked open the entire time I've been there.

If we can stretch "downtown" to mean Faux Downtown Glenview (aka, "The Glen"), I rolled the dice and had a selection of raw oysters at Mitchell's Fish Market, and they were actually good.

Oysters at the bar in the Blue Crab Lounge in Shaw's are 1/2 price from 4 until 6:30 on weekdays. I'm not certain about weekends.

I'm looking for a place that has a reliably good oyster bar along with other seafood items on the menu. Preferably within the city limits or very close suburbs. We've been to GT Fish and Oyster several times and have always been happy with the meal, but are looking to branch out to other places.
    Any suggestions?

I've been happy the two times I've had the happy hour oysters at Sushi Dokku. Service is terrible, but they're pretty cheap and delicious.

Vera--$1 oysters on Mondays. And delicious. Not a seafood bar though. I usually consider that to be a plus but if that's what you're hankering for, I've never had a bad time at Shaw's...
