I am almost embarrassed to say that I live not 2 blocks from Humboldt Pie and have never been there until last week. Guess it is the fact that I am not much of a coffee/coffee shop person, which is a shame because the hood is certainly sparse when it comes to places within walking distance and I'd like to give anything new a chance to earn my support. But for some reason Humboldt Pie never made it onto my radar as it was just not my kind of place. That is until I noticed the sign claiming they now served pizza. I LIKE pizza :)
Anyways, my mental note to "try Humboldt Pie pizza" was kicked up to the front of mind by a pizza menu and 50% off coupon stuck on my front gate. Menu looked very promising as their pre-arranged pizza choices had what looked like a few potential new favorites. Anyways, the SO and I decided upon the pesto pizza, topped with fresh tomato and ricotta cheese (in addition to mozzarella) off their pre-fab selections.
The pizza was quite nice (we did carry-out). First off it was perfectly cook, with a nice array of browned cheese which is just how I like it. The pizza used a pesto base rather than tomato sauce and and had dollops of ricotta, which managed to keep their shape after cooking so they were indeed a "topping" rather than a part to a 2 cheese pizza. The crust was in the thin/medium range and had a nice dry crunch to it.
Overall I think we both enjoyed the pizza and will definitely be going back.

I also lived about two blocks from Humboldt Pie and finally decieded to give their pizza a try. It was the 50% off coupon that did it for me. I had the exact same pizza as described above and it was delicious. It is a good addition to the neighborhood and I think I will be a frequent customer. Now I need to get off my butt and try Flying Saucer right down the street.
