We are doing bit on "Local Foods" at the FamilyFarmed Expo March 11th for the childrens area. Idea being to teach children the importance of food/drink produced close to home. Fewer "food-miles" the better for all concerend.

I'm struggling with this list and would appreciate any ideas. March is a tough time to showcase produce but there are other foods prepared here in Chicago by small biz. that can be shown as well.

Any input on this list would be appreciated!

Farmer Vicki/Genesis Growers will have her greenhouse purring by March. She's based in NW Illinois.

I gotta imagine that City Farms on Clyborn will be growing chard and such as soon as the ground is soft enough.

There are meat packers and live chicken places in Chicago and obviously a fair amount of manufacturs like Tootsie Roll, Bloomers, Mars, etc. There have been other threads on Chicago products.

What exactly do you want, locally grown food generally, locally grown food in March or locally manufactured food?
