I'm hoping to find those delicious coconut-filled chocolate Easter eggs, the ones with the chewy coconut filling like Mounds, but of better quality. It used to be easy to find them, but in recent years I haven't had any success -- I've found peanut butter, cream, caramel, etc . . . but no coconut. Any ideas? The closest thing I've found are those chocolate/coconut patties that they sell in the Miami area, but I'm hoping for eggs and good quality ingredients, if possible.

The chocolate-coconute patties have a soft spot in my heart, as I grew up in So. FL

You can order them online from Hale's Indian River Groves at www.hales.com

They also have insanely tasty grapefruits, of course, which make a nice gift.

I too have great memories of those patties as my grandparents used to bring them to us as gifts when they visited Florida.

Is this what you're looking for? It came from Meijer, but I would think you could find Russell Stover at many places. I know Walgreens typically has their boxed chocolates.

    Meijer also had Mounds eggs.

    HI,

I personally like Russell Stover's Vermont logs and eggs. It is a maple flavored fudgy center rolled in chopped pecans.

They have a new (possibly to me) item: chocolate covered brownie. I haven't tried it, though I like the idea.

Thanks Laz and Cathy. I think I'll give Russell Stover a try. As for the maple . . . and pecans . . . that brings back some memories of those Stucky's pecan log rolls that I used to love on family road trips, except the maple and fudge makes it sound even better. I'll have to give that a try.

    HI,

I just reread what I wrote, I didn't mean to overstate things. There is no chocolate fudge. What I meant was the maple center is fudg-ish ... I think your idea of a Stucky's log is more on the mark.

    Regards,

Still not a bad thing :)

Can you get Stuckey's logs locally? Where is the closest Stuckey's? I haven't had one in at least 10 years, and I LOVE them.

    HI,

According to Stuckey's, you will need to go downstate Illinois or into Indiana.

Ah, Stuckey's. For what seemed like years, the Stuckey's nearest my childhood home in Florida was missing the T in their sign, thus rendering them Suckey's. Very amusing to me as a small child. :)

I was walking by the Godiva shop today and noticed some Easter items on display and sure enough they had coconut cream filled chocolate eggs. Unfortunately, they're very small . . . but the flavor was very good so I bought a bunch, although expensive (just under $1 per egg). They were coated in a darker chocolate (semisweet I guess) and the flavors worked so well together. At least it's a start.

Well, if there's anyone else out there like me looking for these coconut filled eggs, let me just tell you to stay away from the Russell Stover ones (I only tasted the coconut type). The cream filling was too marshmellow-like, and I could barely taste coconut. The Mounds eggs are far superior, and I don't think that's saying a whole lot.

I did talk to the guy at Mr. Kite's Candies (State just south of Division) and he told me that they would likely have them this weekend, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
